Frequently Asked Questions
Sessions & Logistics
You get to choose what works best for you. I offer both in-person therapy in a warm, comfortable office and secure online therapy for clients anywhere in Arizona.
If we meet in person, you’ll have a calm space that’s intentionally designed to help you slow down, breathe a little deeper, and focus on yourself.
If we meet online, all you need is a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a comfortable place to sit. I’ll send you a secure video link before your session, and we’ll meet face-to-face, just without the commute.
Whether we’re sharing the same room or the same screen, my goal is the same: helping you feel seen, understood, and a little less alone.
Ember and Insight Counseling, LLC is located at: 3303 S Lindsay Rd Ste 125 in Gilbert, AZ 85297.
The office is on the border of Chandler and Gilbert at Lindsay and Pecos Rd.
It’s simple. Reach out through my website, or give me a call to schedule a free consultation, and we’ll spend a few minutes talking about what you’re looking for.
If it feels like we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session. If not, I’ll do my best to help point you in the right direction.
Finding the right therapist matters.
Think of it as our chance to say hello before we dive into the deeper stuff. We’ll spend about 20 minutes talking about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you have about how I work.
No pressure. No obligation. No awkward sales pitch.
Just two humans figuring out whether we’d work well together.
Most individual sessions are 50 minutes and couples sessions are 60 minutes. It usually feels surprisingly fast once we get talking.
Some weeks we’ll untangle something that’s been weighing on you for years. Other weeks we’ll celebrate a win, laugh together, or simply catch your nervous system up to the rest of your life.
Therapy isn’t about filling time, it’s about making the time meaningful.
Who I Work With
I primarily work with older adolescents, emerging adults, and adults. Many of my clients are navigating relationships, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, religious deconstruction, identity exploration, or simply trying to find their way back to themselves after spending years taking care of everyone else.
Yes. I work with individuals of all genders, couples, and older adolescents. Whether you’re coming on your own, with your partner, or somewhere in the middle of figuring life out, you’re welcome here.
Absolutely. I strive to create a space where you don’t have to wonder if you’ll be accepted, understood, or asked to defend who you are. Your identity isn’t something that needs to be explained or justified here.
Whether you’re exploring your identity, navigating relationships, coming out, healing from religious trauma, processing family dynamics, or simply looking for a therapist who sees and affirms you, you’re welcome here. My goal is to offer a space where you can show up as your full, authentic self, because healing happens best when you don’t have to hide parts of who you are.
How I Work
I don’t believe you’re broken. I believe you’ve become disconnected, from yourself, your strengths, or the people who matter most. My role is to help you find your way back.
Your true self is just buried beneath stress, painful experiences, old patterns, or years spent surviving instead of truly living. My work is active and focused on helping things actually change, not just talking about what’s happening.
My job isn’t to become the expert on you. It’s to help you reconnect with the wisdom, resilience, and strengths that are already there.
We look at the patterns underneath your experiences, how you communicate, respond, and protect yourself, and begin to shift them in real time. If ADHD or trauma is part of your story, we integrate that directly so it’s not working against you. Whether we’re healing old wounds, navigating ADHD with greater self-compassion, repairing a relationship, or making sense of a major life transition, my approach is rooted in curiosity, connection, and hope, not judgment or shame.
I believe even the smallest ember can grow into something that provides warmth, light, and direction. Sometimes all it needs is a little care.
My hope is that when you leave each session, you understand yourself a little more, judge yourself a little less, and feel a little more connected, to yourself and to the people who matter most.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that helps process and resolve past experiences that are still impacting you. Rather than just talking about what happened, EMDR helps your brain reprocess those experiences so they feel less overwhelming and no longer shape how you respond in the present, especially in relationships.
It depends on your goals and what you’re working through. Some clients come in for focused, shorter-term work, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper pattern change. We’ll talk about what makes the most sense for you during our initial sessions.
Credentials & Training
I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have continued pursuing specialized training in ADHD, trauma, attachment, and relationship therapy.
I’m a firm believer that therapists should never stop learning. Fortunately, I genuinely love learning, so it works out well for everyone.
Yes. I’m licensed to provide therapy in Arizona.
I also believe that letters after someone’s name matter far less than whether they make you feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for. Thankfully, I bring both.
This supervised private practice is owned and/or managed by a master’s-level, non-independent licensee under Board-approved clinical supervision pursuant to A.A.C. R4-6-217. The Board-approved clinical supervisor for Ember and Insight Counseling is Amanda Mathews, LPC22265, 623-522-7005, amanda.arenewedmindset@gmail.com.
A Few Fun Questions
Very. I wanted my office to feel more like a place you could exhale than a place you had to perform.
The couch and chairs have been carefully selected and unofficially approved by people who have spent their sessions sitting in them.
Although I love a dramatic movie scene, most people prefer to sit in a comfy chair.
Some curl up on the couch. Some like to tuck one foot underneath themselves.
However you naturally settle in is perfectly fine with me.
That’s entirely your call.
Some sessions involve laughter. Some involve tears. Sometimes both happen before we’ve even finished saying hello.
Either way, you’re welcome exactly as you are. Mascara included.
The soft kind. Because if emotions show up, and they often do, you deserve tissues that comfort you instead of exfoliating your face.
Absolutely. Some I’ll happily answer. Others I may gently redirect if answering wouldn’t actually help your therapy.
I’ll always be honest about why. Therapy works best when there’s trust, curiosity, and room for real conversations.
This feels like an unfair question.
Dogs tend to greet you like you’ve returned from war after taking out the trash. Cats tend to love you on their own carefully negotiated terms.
Honestly, I appreciate both, but our current obsession is Milo, our 5-year-old Maltese.
Your Next Step Starts Here
Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to face it alone.
The first step doesn’t have to be a giant leap. It can be as simple as reaching out.
If you’re ready to begin, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Find your way back to yourself and to the people who matter most.
Free 20-minute consultation. I reply to all inquiries within 48 hours.
